Moral Specific Gravity

One’s initial place in this multi-layered afterlife is apparently the result of what was referred to by Professor Hare as moral specific gravity. In his many conversations with spirit communicators, Hare was informed that a person’s good works (or lack thereof) manifest in his or her energy field, often referred to as the aura. Thus, after death, a soul will gravitate to either darkness or light, according to how moral the person was here on Earth. Hare was also informed by actual spirits that people cannot “cheat” and skip to higher realms, as each person’s moral specific gravity will allow him or her to tolerate only so much light. If a spirit were to try to enter a realm that he or she is not ready or qualified for, he or she would not be able to endure the searing brightness.

Like Swedenborg, Frederick C. Schulthorp, an Englishman, learned how to explore the afterlife via out-of-body travel and clairvoyance. He was told by spirit entities that every thought generates an electrical impulse, which is then imprinted upon the person’s energy field and stored there. The sum total of all the vibrations throughout the person’s lifetime determines his or her initial station in the afterlife. “Upon entry into spirit life, a person will naturally and automatically gravitate to his state in spirit which corresponds to his acts and thoughts throughout life as reproduced by his ‘personal tape record.’”7 Indeed, more than a century previous to Schulthorp’s discoveries, the Reverend Arthur Chambers, an associate of King’s College, London, and Vicar of the Church of England in Brockenhurst, Hampshire, claimed that a spirit talking through a medium told him this, as well: “Persons enter the Spiritual World with precisely the same character, enlightenment and disposition as that with which they leave your world and go into a sphere for which they are fitted. And there they remain until mentally, morally, and spiritually advanced, they are fitted for a higher sphere.”8
